How signing Justin Coleman impacts the Lions roster and offseason

New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers issued his goodbye to the region and organization he enjoyed for four years. The defensive end and the Lions agreed to a five-year deal Monday, according to multiple reports, in a pact that NFL Network pegged as worth more than $16 million per year.

During the lead up to the offseason, the Buffalo Bills front office brass led by head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane have said they will not be neglecting addressing needs on defense. He had 9.5 sacks in 2018, including two during the Patriots' Super Bowl run.

Brown's depature marks the second consecutive year that the Patriots have lost their starting left tackle to free agency.

The Lions can officially sign Flowers when the new league year opens on Wednesday. Given the funny-money deals being shelled out early in the negotiating period, around $17 million per year isn't ridiculous for the top pass rusher on the market.

The Lions had a need at the position with Ziggy Ansah a free agent.

It's been a busy Monday for the Lions. New England sent him to the Seahawks in 2017 for a seventh-round pick, and he recorded two decent seasons.

He was released after one season in which he accumulated 59 receptions for 575-yards and one touchdown. "I'm ready to play at a high level and do whatever I can to help this team win". The Lions are also banking on James being a much more effective weapon in the passing game. He started 45 games for Detroit over the last three seasons, notching 18 passes defensed.
