Oppo's not 'impressed' with foldable smartphones, here's why

Huawei unveils Mate X folding phone to rival Samsung Galaxy Fold

One other noticeable difference in the Huawei Mate X vs. Galaxy Fold comparison is how the cameras are housed. Samsung has the Galaxy Fold, yesterday Huawei introduced the Mate X, TCL revealed some foldable dummies at MWC 2019, and now Oppo is jumping the hype train.

"It won't be a big volume mover at that price, but keep in mind that notebook PCs used to cost $2,000, too, before they reached more affordable price points", Bryan Ma, vice president of devices research at IDC, said of Samsung's Galaxy Fold phone. But while those first few buyers will be the talk of the town, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X might not be as top-of-the-line as their price tag would suggest. "This is the world's fastest 5G smartphone prepared for the future".

Professor Alan Barrell, of the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge, whose current work is focused heavily on the commercialization of research, technology start-ups and the development of UK-China Trade said the Mate X is superior to its rivals. The Galaxy Note usually borrows cameras from the most powerful Galaxy S10 model which was released earlier in the year, and Samsung makes some additional software improvements to such hardware for the Galaxy Note series launches.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 9 past year as an iterative update to the Galaxy Note 8. When unfolded, the Mate X turns into a 8-inch panel (8:7.1, 2480 x 2200 resolution) that is only 5.4mm thick. Yes, this year's smartphone gathering in Barcelona is truly about foldables.

He designed the imaginary "iPhone X Fold", a handset with two displays - the outer screen featuring a 1:3 aspect ratio and the inner has a 2:3 aspect ratio.

Huawei is still trying to get buyers to accept it into the big boys club and the Mate X is certainly helping its case.

Both the Huawei Mate X and the Galaxy Fold are smartphones with displays that fold out to be the size of a tablet.

Foldable phones are completely new to the market and that means that in time they will have their own quality control issues.

The rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 10 may come with four rear cameras, according to speculation from SamMobile yesterday. However, Samsung's Galaxy Fold can't be laid totally flat.

Powered by Huawei's Kirin 980 processor, the device has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with a 4,500mAh battery split into two cells, either side of the fold. Oppo is taking a "wait and see" approach, apparently.

Moreover, the Huawei Mate X comes with an integrated Fingerprint Power Button that enables users to power up the device with one tap, offering a secure and convenient experience.
