In the interview with the Post, of which neither a transcript nor audio was allowed to be published, he said he was determined to spend the remaining three years of his term pursuing "equity" and believes that he is the man for the job. Northam spent the week in seclusion after a racist picture on the personal page of his medical school yearbook was discovered.

After his freakish news conference last Saturday, where he flip-flopped on whether he was in the racist yearbook photo but admitted to dressing in blackface at another time, Northam huddled with top aides in Virginia's executive mansion.

Again, whatever you think of the merits, as a factual matter these numbers leave little doubt in my mind that Northam will not resign from office. Virginia may well have voted (twice) for Barack Obama for president and now has more racial and ethnic minorities, but there are still regions where the sensitivities skew more towards the cultural practices of the Old South than the new politics of Virginia, which is less white and more populated by newcomers.

RICHMOND, VA - FEBRUARY 07: Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax presides over the Senate at the Virginia State Capitol, February 7, 2019 in Richmond, Virginia.

In a statement on Friday, February 8, the woman said the alleged attack happened when she and Fairfax were both students at Duke University back in 2000. If Fairfax has not resigned by Monday, Democratic Delegate Patrick Hope will introduce articles of impeachment.

Fairfax's spokeswoman, Lauren Burke, said, "we're calling for an investigation on all of these matters", according to The Washington Post.

"We knew Trump had just gotten elected and we needed a Democratic governor in Virginia, especially because of the importance of the state in national elections", Wise, 34, explained.

Virginia's governor has made his first official public appearance since he denied appearing in a racist yearbook photo and admitted to wearing blackface.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has disappeared after saying he wanted to start an honest conversation about race.

Fairfax would be next in line to be governor should Gov. Ralph Northam step aside. Northam later admitted wearing blackface and impersonating Michael Jackson around the same time. A lawyer for Meredith Watson, 39, said in a statement that Fairfax raped Watson 19 years ago while they were students at Duke University.

I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation. That was followed by admissions from Northam and the state's attorney general, Mark Herring, 57, that each had darkened their faces during the 1980s to imitate black performers, a practice widely considered to be racist.

"Lieutenant Governor Fairfax should resign".

The majority of Virginia's Democratic delegation on Friday night called for the resignation of Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, who's facing allegations of sexual assault from two women. Watson's claim came less than a week after Vanessa Tyson said Fairfax forced her to give him oral sex during the summer of 2004.

Fairfax was accused by two women of sexual assault, including rape by one of the women.

If Northam steps down, as many critics have called for him to do, Fairfax would assume the governorship.

One number that is clearly buoying Northam is the answer to this question: "Do you think the Northam's yearbook photo is (an isolated incident) or is it (a sign of broader racial prejudice in his life)?"
