Superstars like Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Craig Kimbrel, Ryan Schimpf and Chris Volstad still don't know whether to head to Arizona, Florida or Okinawa City.

Both players are deserving of max contracts in the Majors.

Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees hugs Bryce Harper #34 of the Washington Nationals and the National League in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Marlins Park on July 10, 2017 in Miami, Florida.

Many baseball fans and media personnel alike saw this tweet and took it to mean that Harper, the cover athlete for the game, would announce who he is signing with by simultaneously releasing the cover photo for the game depicting Harper in his team's new digs. The Phillies and Nationals the teams that could give Harper what he wants. Harper and Machado seem likely to sign for less than expected at the start of the winter, which could have teams re-considering whether to try to jump back into the fray.

After the Dodgers signed outfielder AJ Pollack, they will not sign Harper. Phillies owner John Middleton said in November that the club was prepared to spend "stupid money" this off-season.

Bob Nightengale wrote in mid-January that the Phils were the "clear-cut" favourite to land Harper. "Wherever he wants to play, we'll make it work". Previous reports had pegged the Phillies, White Sox, Padres and Nationals among the interested parties. After signing former Gold Glove award victor Troy Tulowitzki and DJ Lemahieu, the Yankees do not look like they will be signing Machado. The team has a history of winning, an all-time manager in Bruce Bochy, veterans on the roster that could make them an immediate contender, and close proximity to his hometown of Las Vegas.
