Ariana Grande Reportedly Withdraws From Grammys After Disagreement Over Song Choices

The singer, who was set to perform during Sunday's broadcast, has dropped out of the awards show altogether after a disagreement with producers over artistic control, according to a Variety report.

The entertainment website reported that the 25-year-old singer felt "insulted" when the show's producers refused to let her perform her newest single "7 Rings".

She was only nominated for two awards this year; Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener and Best Pop Solo Performance for "God Is A Woman".

When people inevitably decry how irrelevant the Grammys have become, please direct them to exhibit A: an Ariana Grande no-show. And because their demands for Ari's performance at this year's ceremony were so, erm, Grande, she has pulled the, erm, Grande move of backing out of the show.

In response to a tweet of ours, Ariana Grande shut down the rumors and confirmed that she will not perform at the 61st GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 10, 2019: "that rumor is false ".

CNN has reached out to the Recording Academy for comment.

The source added that other scheduled performers did not receive the same stipulations. They instead offered her a spot during the Tom Petty tribute, which she declined.

The pop star has been nominated for two awards at the Grammys. "I want to do it on my own terms from now on", Ariana told Billboard for her "Woman of the Year" cover story in December 2018.

"7 Rings" was played a record breaking 15 million times in its first 24 hours on Spotify and follows global smash "Thank U, Next" that everyone is probably still humming along to in their sleep.
