Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez takes tech companies to task for conference promoting climate denial

Ocasio-Cortez wasted no time in offering her first remarks on the committee. Ocasio-Cortez, the 29-year-old Bronx, New York, politician has become a key voice for a new and diverse generation thanks to her come-from-nowhere 2018 Democratic primary win and 3.5 million combined followers on Twitter and Instagram.

The self-proclaimed Democrat-socialist unseated a well established Democrat in a shocking primary upset a year ago.

"Everybody knows someone in their life that is already an incredible public servant - nominate that awesome public servant to take their service to the halls of Congress", she encouraged.

Ari Fleischer called out a common identity politics trope used by members of the mainstream media to accuse them of personal animosity against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) when in reality they oppose her socialist policies.

Hoover asked Ocasio-Cortez to expand some on the radical comment, but after stumbling for a few minutes, the Democrat failed to explain herself.

Ocasio-Cortez's spokesman Corbin Trent said the congresswoman has no issues if someone challenges her in a primary.

A libertarian student group fired back at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a Democratic colleague for trying "attempts to shame our sponsors" by claiming the group's annual conference promoted "climate denial". "Do you want TB, HIV/AIDS, chicken pox or hepatitis in your communities at your children's schools?"

Ocasio-Cortez and Pingree wrote that "given the magnitude and urgency of the climate crisis ... we find it imperative to ensure that the climate-related views espoused at LibertyCon do not reflect the values of your companies going forward".

"This is something we should look at but some of it may not be technologically or politically feasible", Pallone said in an interview with WNYC earlier this month.

At one point, Politico reported that Ocasio-Cortez and the group were targeting fellow New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who is now the caucus chairman.

"She's pissing off a lot of people and has probably made a lot of enemies", a NY political insider told The Hill. She's been moving more to the left.

"We can not allow the financing of misinformation campaigns to shape our democracy", Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet.

Ocasio-Cortez is now spearheading the Green New Deal - a bill that has brought climate change into national conversation as it aims to prevent the world from warming no more than 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100.
