Turkey vowed on Monday that the fight against Islamic State would not be slowed by the USA withdrawal from Syria, where Ankara-backed rebels reinforced their positions around the potential flashpoint town of Manbij.
The Pentagon has said the order for the withdrawal of US troops from Syria has been signed following President Donald Trump's December 19 announcement setting out plans for a full pullout, USA media are reporting.
Trump in a Twitter video posting on December 19 declared that "we have won" against the Islamic State (IS) terror group operating in Syria and made the surprise announcement he was bringing home all USA forces from the war-torn country.

Up to 30,000 strong, YPG won several victories against ISIS with the support of US troops and air strikes.
But Trump maintains ISIS has been defeated and says whatever is left of the terror group can be eradicated by Turkey.
But he said concerns over whether Iran will take advantage of the U.S. withdrawal were legitimate.

Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey will take over the fight against IS militants in Syria as the United States withdraws its troops, adding that the planned operation would also target the YPG.
Late Sunday he tweeted that Erdogan had assured him that any IS fighters remaining will be eliminated.
"I cannot see how the pull-out can affect Saudi Arabia as such", Kadi said, adding that Riyadh is now preoccupied with its domestic affairs and the media fuss over the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Manbij was at the center of an agreement the US and Turkey reached in June under which Kurdish forces were to withdraw.
