Kaepernick has not been able to join an National Football League team's roster, despite a 49ers resume that includes leading the team to a Super Bowl appearance in the 2012 season.
"He's been discussed for sure", Gruden said.
It's Week 14 now, and the Washington Redskins have one quarterback able to play.
"Not a lot of time to really get a brand new quarterback and new system installed and taught in a couple of days of practice", Gruden said.
Added Gruden: "You want to have somebody with a similar skillset to the quarterback you have". Not that Colin can't do some of the things we've talked about, but we want someone with a little more familiarity.
Gruden says the team will have a workout with QBs later this afternoon. though it's unclear if Kaepernick will be a part of those. Mark Sanchez, signed two weeks ago, takes over as the starter. Sanchez completed 13 of 21 passes for 100 yards and led a field goal drive to close the second quarter. Yates before going with Sanchez.
Now, the Redskins are once again on the market for a quarterback, needing someone to come in and backup Sanchez in case he too goes down.
When he limped to the sideline, he was having trouble putting weight on his leg, and he eventually made his way into the Redskins locker room, where an x-ray revealed he had a broken bone.
