When the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James over the summer, the messaging that began funneling out of El Segundo felt like wishful thinking.
The Lakers are already thin at point guard, with veteran Rajon Rondo healing up from surgery on his right hand. "But the way he was moving out there, it just didn't feel right to leave him out on the court, so we got him out quickly".
"When James is running the point, he rarely looks toward the bench to receive play calls from coach Luke Walton", Windhorst wrote.
This shouldn't come as a surprise to the Lakers front office, and probably not to Walton as well.
You'd be hard-pressed to still find people that rip on LeBron James.
Shortly after the team's release, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Oladipo "is still working himself back into game condition and is expected to return in the near future". In comparison, James averaged 36.9 minutes last season while playing in all 82 games for the first time in his career.
James played 38 minutes Thursday, scoring 38 points and adding 9 rebounds and 7 assists as the Lakers ended a two-game losing streak. I keep telling them I'm strong enough to play most minutes, but they won't listen to me, so, it's OK.
LeBron James skipped college basketball, going straight from high school to the NBA, but the oldest son of the best player in the league could be joining the collegiate ranks in a couple of years.
"We had this game", said Darren Collison, who scored nine points. "Once we do that, we will be a really good team".
