WWE's Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia has been perhaps the company's most controversial show in years, and that's saying something. On the Raw side of the bracket, Bobby Lashley (John Cena's replacement) will face Intercontinental champion Seth Rollins, with the victor taking on either Kurt Angle or Dolph Ziggler.

There are still several major names on the card, including Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins, Dolph Zigler, Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio.

This comes shortly after news of John Cena and Daniel Bryan's reported refusal to work the show.

It should be noted that WWE has not officially indicated that Hogan will be appearing at the show.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE's April Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia left a bad impression on Bryan sparking his decision to not join WWE when they returned in November. Apparently, WWE considered having Styles and Bryan wrestle at the WWE Performance Center and have that pre-taped match air at Crown Jewel. Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels returns to in-ring action in the WWE for the first time in more than eight years as part of a tag-team match featuring Triple H, The Undertaker and Knox County, Tennessee, mayor Glen "Kane" Jacobs.

This had been predicted earlier in the year, when Turki Al-Sheikh - the Minister and Chairman of the General Sports Authority in Saudi Arabia - tweeted out a picture of Hulk Hogan along with a message about the WWE World Cup taking place at Crown Jewel.

'And I also want to say once again, thank all of you for allowing me to be part of something so special'. I will be covering the event live beginning with the Kickoff show.

At this point, WWE probably just wants to get through this week.

"WWE has operated in the Middle East for almost 20 years and has developed a sizable and dedicated fan base. Full year 2018 guidance is predicated on the staging of the Riyadh event as scheduled".

A big development ahead of Crown Jewel.

WWE instead has put Saudi Arabia on mute as backlash spreads against its lucrative long-term deal with a kingdom facing global uproar.
