Rahul Gandhi refuses comment on CVC probe against CBI Director

CBI infighting'Absolutely essential that integrity of CBI is maintained says Arun Jaitley

Breaking : SC Directs CVC To Complete Enquiry Against Alok Verma In Two Weeks Under Supervision Of Justice AK Patnaik, Nageswara Rao Can't Take Any Policy Decisions

India's Central Vigilance Commission, an autonomous anti-corruption body, had recommended the removal of director Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana on Tuesday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a news conference Wednesday, calling it a "bizarre and unfortunate" situation. The multi-crore scams such as the Rafale deal and allocation of coal mines in which IAS officer Bhaskar Khuble was involved was being looked into by his boss, Alok Verma. Unless proved guilty of moral turpitude, he continues in office as his forced leave is a violation of the All India Service (Leave) Rules.

The PIL filed by one Nitin Deshpande through advocate Ashish Mehta of Ethos Legal says the prayer should be granted to prevent a flagrant miscarriage of Justice. It is criminal. It is an insult to the Constitution.

Asked if ongoing crisis in the CBI would help ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, Mitra said, "It will indirectly help the TMC". The Prime Minister was scared that once a CBI investigation into the case starts, he would be finished.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also questioned the move, saying in a tweet that he had heard the director was about to begin an investigation into the Rafale deal. "In this sense, the PM's reaction was in panic", he said when asked about BJP's charge on how Gandhi knew about Verma's plan to order a probe into Rafale deal.

On a query about the basis of his confidence on claims that the CBI was about to begin a Rafale probe he skirted the issue but claimed, "I know like everyone knows".

Two former CBI directors A P Singh (2010-12) had alleged links with Moin Qureshi and Ranjit Sinha openly entertained those accused in serious crimes who sought to meet him.

The court directed that the inquiry be conducted under the supervision of a retired apex court judge and barred IPS officer M Nageswara Rao, who has been given interim charge of looking after the duties of CBI Director, from taking any policy or major decision.

The Congress chief recalled that the entire country knows that the prime minister has done "corruption" and everything goes to prove that the Prime Minister has put Rs 30,000 crore in the pocket of his friend Anil Ambani and robbed the nation.

Asthana, who allegedly had an outstanding record in Gujarat, was known to be the blue-eyed boy of both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah which is why he was brought in to allegedly probe the shenanigans of opposition leaders like P Chidambaram.

He said that from now on every Indian institution is going to protect the prime minister, but every Indian citizen will find out the truth.

"The whole country watched on TV today while snooping and keeping surveillance on opposition and political opponents have been very basic nature of this government, but to meddle so blatantly in an ongoing explosive investigation will further erode the sanctity and trust that our police force and its officers have earned over the past 70 years", the letter said.
