Ticked at a critical play in a controversially classic Game 4 of the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox, ticked at a blown call that helped define it and royally ticked that major league baseball doesn't have the proper mechanisms in plate to get it right.

Gonzalez homered off Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes in the seventh inning before Game 3 victor Nathan Eovaldi emerged from the bullpen to stifle that rally.

Boston leads the series 3-1 and now is 12 outs away from clinching a World Series berth.

Verlander allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he was "very happy" for pitcher David Price after his outstanding showing in Game 5 of the ALCS.

Price, the star-crossed southpaw whose recent postseason failures had taken a heavy toll on him, delivered a vintage performance that recalled the dazzling ones turned in by a 23-year-old rookie a decade ago this week, back when Price, then pitching out of the Tampa Bay Rays' bullpen, was perhaps the most promising young pitcher in baseball.

After the Boston Red Sox scored two runs on a first-inning single from Rafael Devers, George Springer reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the frame. They claimed that McLaughlin was just there to surveil the opposing dugouts to ensure their opponents weren't using any illegal tactics to steal the Astros' signs. Houston was trying to tie the series at 2-2, with another home game set for Thursday, but instead it lost to Boston by - wouldn't you know - two runs, 8-6. The Astros did not score in the inning. Craig Kimbrel worked the ninth for his third save of the series.

That meant Devers' home run was more than enough to give Boston the win.

Martinez opened the scoring with a 396-foot blast to left field for his second home run of the postseason in front of a crowd of 40,000 at Minute Maid Park.

Any Red Sox fan could have recited the bad numbers: 11 starts, 0-9 record, 6.16 ERA. As Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts jumped against the wall and stretched to snatch it out of the air, a fan in the stands hit his glove, and the ball bounced back onto the field.

The Red Sox will host the victor of the Brewers-Dodgers NLCS.

In West's estimation, the fan (s) reached out over the wall and into the playing field, making contact with Betts' glove at that time, and that's what prevented the catch. Game 1 at Fenway Park is on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and will be televised on Fox.

So who wins every playoff game?

The controversial interference call brought back memories of a similar situation that took place during a playoff game over a decade ago.
