WaPo: Out of Desperation, Republicans Depict Democrats as 'Mob'

In exchange for early recess to go home to campaign, Democrats have agreed to immediately confirm 12 district court judges and 3 appeals court judges and not require the 30 hour rule for debate.

The quest for ideological party helped erode Clinton's vote total enough to elect Trump, and it has driven moderate Republicans from Congress.

McConnell noted that these activities followed last year's shooting of GOP lawmakers at a morning baseball practice by "a politically crazed gunman". Large sections of Americans feel a growing unease over these issues; the rift these have caused and how they will be resolved will indicate the direction in which the country is headed. The Kentucky Republican said it awakened them to the Supreme Court cause - an issue that inspired numerous same voters to back Trump in 2016.

"Trump's real power is that he knows how to wield victimhood", Trevor Noah, host of the popular American TV satirical, The Daily Show on Comedy Central, observes caustically. The 10th Circuit will likely decide to dismiss the complaints as moot now that Kavanaugh has joined the high court. It's a major asset. The 15 misconduct complaints reportedly center on whether Kavanaugh was dishonest and "lacked judicial temperament" during his Senate testimony. Trump managed to galvanise not only the male members, but also various sections in his Republican support base as he went around trashing the Democrats and Kavanaugh's critics in one of the most polarised elections for a Supreme Court judge that, significantly, played out under the shadow of a highly charged #MeToo campaign.

The party's statement termed Blasey Ford's treatment by the Senate "disgusting and symbolic of the harsh treatment victims have all too often received from our society". All three were in high school then. "We're going to fight for the ideals of the Democratic Party".

There are a plethora of other people qualified to perform the tasks required of a Supreme Court justice, many of whom were listed alongside Kavanaugh on President Donald Trump's short list.

As for the "young men" themselves - those under 30 in this poll - 26% of them say they are "very worried" about being accused falsely, but even more, 41%, are very anxious about young women becoming victims of sexual assault.

Trump has flitted between distancing himself from and defending Kavanaugh. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who first learned of the sexual-assault allegations against Kavanaugh, should have immediately alerted Trump.

Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed in the Senate by a vote of 50 to 48. No sitting U.S. Supreme Court justice has ever been removed from the bench using this mechanism. One was over liberal judge Louis Brandeis (after whom Brandeis University in MA is named), who was nominated by Woodrow Wilson in 1916.

Liberal protesters - egged on by Democratic politicians - are openly embracing a more confrontational and aggressive approach, banging on the doors of the Supreme Court, confronting lawmakers outside their offices and chasing GOP officials out of restaurants.

Justice Clarence Thomas's 1991 nomination also ran into controversy when Oklahoma law professor Anita Hill, who worked for him, accused him of sexual harassment. And because of the sheer breadth of their decision making, every person on the court should not only have the advice and consent from the Senate, but they should be able to boast the overwhelming approval of the American people.

Republicans' position in the 2020 midterms is so precarious they are now labeling the Democrats who stormed Washington last weekend to protest Brett Kavanaugh as a "mob" that must be corralled, according to a story Tuesday in the Washington Post.

But the Kavanaugh confirmation, as bitter and divisive as it was, was seen by many analysts as a victory for Trump.
