The 29-year-old former first round pick, and still one of the best defensive players in the National Football League, flipped off his own sideline while being carted off the field.

Earl Thomas flipped off the sideline of the Seattle Seahawks as he was being carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast.

The 29-year-old was injured while defending Arizona's Chad Williams, who caught a 22-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 17-all.

Thomas, whose contract was not granted an extension, had said previously he would skip some practices in protest.

Carroll, who said last week that he thought the unhappiness was behind them, got another chance to talk about the finger on Monday and seemed to have a clearer idea about Thomas' intent. So Thomas' frustration is understandable considering his value may be considerably lower heading into free agency next year. He's trying to play this game he loves and all of sudden this happens again.

"He had it all just totally figured out and was as emotional as you can get. I think he has a long road ahead of him if it is the injury he is expecting".

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters following the game Thomas broke his leg. The rookie was carted to the locker room in the first quarter with a knee injury.

One of the final members of the Seattle Seahawks's Legion of Boom likely ended his career on the team with an explosion.
