Real have now failed to beat Atletico at home in the league in their last six attempts, with their last victory coming in December 2012 when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

Real Madrid kicked off their defence of their Champions League title with a 3-0 victory over Roma, but they have been in mixed form of late.

He told Cadena Ser's El Larguero programme: "Joining Real Madrid would for me be unthinkable...it would be very, very hard, nearly impossible".

The fullback concluded his roast of Simeone's side saying, "I will sign up for not winning (against them) at the Bernabeu ever again, if it means we keep winning titles".

Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui said the 29-year-old had felt a problem in an abductor muscle, with his substitution being "precautionary", and he was not included in the squad for Tuesday's Champions League game at CSKA Moscow.

Real Madrid will next face Simeone's Atletico Madrid as both sides aim to climb the point table.

Courtois frustrated Costa too, a jabbed finish blocked from the angle, while Jan Oblak nearly gave a gift to Marco Asensio but the intercepting touch fell straight back into his hands.

"Basically, this is a historical derby and it's a rivalry between two teams in Madrid - Real Madrid and Atletico", he said.

CSKA have scored in each of their last eight matches and that could be the key to unlocking some value for a Real Madrid win.

Barcelona remain top of LaLiga, despite their 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. He added: 'In a derby everything is important, it's a match that has an emotional element and we have to go in to it prepared for everything. "Atletico are a great team with a fine collection of players".

"There are many games left to play".

"I want to thank all of the players who help me to improve in every training session and [Julen] Lopetegui too".

"We do not compare ourselves with Madrid nor Barcelona, but with the best Atletico in history", Simeone said. That was followed by 2-0 loss away to Denmark, so Ryan Giggs' men will be keen to get back on track when they visit Dublin in just over a fortnight's time. "We played very well in the first half, and the effort we put in showed later in the game".
