Almost three months after the PGA Tour ended another run outside golf-rich Washington, the PGA of America announced an agreement for the club to host the Women's PGA Championship twice, the Senior PGA Championship twice, the PGA Championship (2031) and the Ryder Cup (2036).
Monahan, who said the Tour considered many format changes, said he loves the beauty of the simplicity of the scoring at the playoff final.
But the PGA Tour is hoping to generate similar drama regardless of which player is in the hunt.
Cape Town - Bryson DeChambeau will start as favourite in the season-ending Tour Championship when it gets underway in Atlanta on Thursday.
The biggest change is for the Tour Championship to crown the FedEx champion from a field of the top 30 players.
Other notable pairings include Open champion Francesco Molinari and Phil Mickelson, while defending Tour Championship victor Xander Schaufelle will partner Rory McIlroy. However, I believe this new strokes-based bonus system for the TOUR Championship might well be the most important of them all, as it will lend absolute clarity to where everyone in the field stands and what exactly they must do to win the FedExCup.
Big changes are coming to the Wyndham Championship in 2019.
The top player in points at the end of the regular season will receive a $2 million bonus, with payouts going down 10 places to $500,000.
Despite earning nearly $5 million from 19 starts, Day feels his poor results at the majors - failing to finish inside the top-15 at all four of golf's biggest events - influenced his negative assessment. He's our season-long champion.
In addition to the $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top 10, the existing FedExCup bonus pool will increase by $25 million, to $60 million.
"It's never going to be ideal", said Thomas, who previous year won the FedExCup while Xander Schauffele won The Tour Championship.
"Our players and fans have invested in the FedExCup over the past 12 seasons, and with these enhancements, we are reinvesting in the FedExCup in order to raise the stakes, so to speak, for their benefit", said Monahan. ". We think this is a significant step forward for the PGA TOUR".
"We wanted to. address a concern that we've had for a number of years now, which is allowing our fans to engage at a much higher, much deeper level - and that has to start with them being able to follow the competition more closely than they have previously", Pazder said. That happened past year when Xander Schauffele on the Tour Championship and Justin Thomas captured the FedEx Cup.
