Google Mini captures top spot in connected speaker market: survey

Amazon's new Alexa goodies are launching today and two have already leaked

While they are not the first company to get into the smart appliance game it appears to be an unusual move to launch a smart microwave, what more this isn't some high-end device, but an AmazonBasics Microwave which looks about as boring as you can get.

That wasn't far off, as it turns out. The speaker output is claimed to have improved well with the generation change. And it is available in multiple colors, too. The device will cost $50 eventually, but for now it is invite-only and will cost $25. It will also work with the new Echo Recast, a DVR device for recording live TV and watching it on the Show and Fire TV products. Two paired Echo Sub speakers and an Echo can act as a 2.1 system.

With a new curved shape and fabric finish, Echo Dot is available in charcoal, heather gray and sandstone colours.

When you want to combine Alexa's intelligence with serious sound equipment, now you can with Echo Link ($200). You can pre-order the Echo Dot now and it will go on sale next month. The Echo Show will also be coming to India next year, but pricing for the Input and the Show have not been announced yet.

Microsoft and Amazon announced the latest piece of their year-plus-old partnership on September 20, 2018, the day Amazon unveiled a bevy of new connected devices.

Unfortunately you can't get one yet. Plus other gadgets such as a Smart Plug, Echo Wall Clock, an Alexa-enabled Microwave and more. The new Echo Sub is a subwoofer set that you can connect with your existing Echo device to create a room-filling audio experience. This new entry in the Ring family of security devices comes in both wired and battery-powered versions and adds access control for compatible Schlage, Yale, Kwikset, and Danalock locks. At launch, it starts at $229 and the device will ship later this year.

There will also be new support for multi-step requests. "Customers can also enjoy Skype's low-priced calling package". It will cost $230.

Amazon's senior vice-president of devices and services Dave Limp said the momentum around the smart home had been "incredible", with more than 20,000 devices now available in the category. Amazon says the speaker delivers better audio quality compared to its predecessor.
