According to reports, Broccoli a said in a conversation with director Antoine Fuqua that it was time for the famous spy to be played by a black actor.

Idris Elba has reignited speculation that he could be named the next James Bond actor with a timely cryptic message on social media.

This story first appeared in the New York Post and is republished with permission.

The actor posted a selfie alongside an obvious nod to 007's iconic line: "The name's Bond, James Bond". It's hard to believe that there are any firm decisions being made, though we know that the Elba rumors were out there even before he tweeted anything.

Rumors that Idris Elba will be the next James Bond have been flying for, well, about a decade.

However, he followed it up with a picture of the group Public Enemy and then tweeted the title of one of their songs: "Don't believe the HYPE".

Elba has always been rumoured to be in the running to take over the role of 007, alongside Tom Hardy, James Norton and Tom Hiddleston.

Daniel Craig's next Bond film is slated to release in 2019 and the film will be directed by Danny Boyle.

"You need a guy with physically strong presence".

As of now, it is not confirmed as to who will be seen sharing the screen next to Daniel Craig in Bond 25.

Elba is best known for TV dramas such as The Wire and Luther, as well as a minor role in the Marvel comic book franchise.

Unsurprisingly, this immediately had fans convinced that this was confirmation that Elba would be taking up the Bond mantle. "I dunno. Sounds good to me".
