The first session of the 15th National Assembly is underway in Islamabad during which 331 members of the lower house of the parliament took oath after their election in the July 25 countrywide polls.

Similarly, PTI chairman Imran Khan will be contesting against PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif for the office of the prime minister.

He was speaking to reporters outside the Parliament ahead of the inaugural session of the 15th National Assembly.

Similarly, the prime minister will then be elected as leader of the house and voting for him or her is held in open where galleries are designated with alphabets for the name of each candidate and those supporting a certain candidate can enter that gallery.

Khan brings charisma and worldwide name recognition, but running the country will take considerable statecraft from his relatively inexperienced party. After the election of the new speaker, the outgoing speaker will give him the oath and hand over charge of the new house.

President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the maiden session today.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Sidhu has accepted his invite.

Pakistan's World Cup cricket hero Imran Khan will be sworn in as prime minister next week, his party said Friday, announcing it has the numbers to form a coalition government in the nuclear-armed nation. The opposition alliance comprising these parties has chose to file its joint candidates for speaker, deputy speaker and prime minister to face the PTI.

Pakistan's prime minister-elect Imran Khan called up cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu to extend invitation to his oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad on August 18, the Punjab minister said in a statement onSaturday. "The PTI will have to develop a good working relationship with all parliamentary parties, including the opposition, to deliver on its election promises", he added.
