Baker Mayfield is expected to receive significant playing time in the Browns preseason opener.

The big reason for that is we could see three of the first four selections from the 2018 NFL Draft on the field on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

As for the Giants, the anticipation about No. 2 pick Saquon Barkley is already at a fever-pitch.

In his National Football League preseason debut, Giants running back Barkley delivered with a 39-yard rush on his first touch. However, in his second series on the field, Mayfield connected with tight end David Njoku for a short touchdown pass. The drive included conversions on third and long and fourth and two.

Rookie Baker Mayfield may have put together a solid outing by completing 11-of-20 passes for 212 yards, and a pair of touchdown passes, Taylor looks to have further strengthened the confidence in him from the coaching staff. He received a ton of work in six series and looked, well, mostly like the big-play magician who won the Heisman trophy a year ago. An early star of HBO's Cleveland edition of "Hard Knocks", he'll have his first live-game shot at flashing his No. 1-caliber athleticism.

But Cleveland couldn't have been more pleased with Mayfield, who intermixed his big-play penchant with mostly sound decision making, all while bringing the energy and leadership skills that have defined his rise from former walk-on to Heisman to the man who's tasked with restoring the NFL's most hopeless franchise.
