"This entire speech you thought was about me, this was for you", Owens said. Owens only trails the great Jerry Rice (22,895), his former teammate with the San Francisco 49ers. Such appears to be the case with Kobe Bryant and Terrell Owens.
With Lewis being inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday night, it is only fitting that his better half on the football field should be joining him in short order.
Owens became emotional when talking about his mother, Marilyn Owens Heard, and late grandmother, Alice Black.
"First and foremost, I have to give the credit to where it's due", Moss said.
"No. I would probably say Terrell Owens because I knew that if I went into an alley with this guy, this guy had my back".
Sherman presented Owens with his gold Hall of Fame jacket, brought to town by a friend who traveled in from Canton.
Owens explained his decision to not attend the official Hall of Fame ceremony was in effort to spark change for what he perceives as mistreatment of certain athletes who have been eligible to be enshrined.
Although Owens probably would have heard some boos if he had given his speech in Canton, the people of Chattanooga proved to be the flawless audience for Owens, who went to college at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga from 1992 to 1995.
"For them to show up.it was heart-warming", he said. Owens is eighth on the all-time receptions list with 1,078, second all time with 15,934 receiving yards, third with 153 receiving touchdowns, and fifth in total touchdowns with 156. "Many of you may be wondering why we're here instead of Canton", Owens said. "I'm sorry we didn't bring it home". "But I love me more".
"I was proud to wear it for 13 years". Every time I go there, they welcome me with open arms.
Near the end of his speech, Owens got the crowd involved.
