Cristiano Ronaldo has been strongly linked with leaving Real Madrid this summer with Juve now the favourites to land the forward.

Juventus declined to comment when contacted by Reuters, while Real Madrid said: "Our official comments are made through our official media channels".

These results, according to analysts, are due to the speculation that Ronaldo is about to leave Real Madrid to sign a four-year deal with the Serie A champions. He has not talked about his club future since joining Portugal for the World Cup. "I'll give a response in the coming days".

Matuidi, who was on media duties in Russian Federation on Wednesday ahead of Friday's quarter-final tie with Uruguay, was quizzed on the possibility of playing with the 33-year-old at the Allianz Stadium next season.

Moments after lifting a third consecutive Champions League trophy, with Real beating Liverpool 3-1 in the final on May 26, Ronaldo appeared to suggest he had already chose to leave Real, telling a TV reporter on the pitch at Kiev's NSC Olympic Stadium: "It was lovely to play for Real Madrid".

"I'm not going to lie it would be just great", he said.

Despite the glut of silverware, however, the five-time world player of the year has had frequent fallouts with Real and has declared on several occasions over the years that he wants to leave the club.

Juventus, who have dominated Italian football over the last few years, believe they are in pole position to sign him and feel they are able to offer attractive terms to both the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes. Portugal's desire to go past the round of 16 however hit the rocks after they were edged out by Uruguay, following a 2-1 defeat.
