Joseph "Joe" Jackson, the father of the late Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, has died at the age of 89 following a grueling battle with pancreatic cancer.

Entertainment Tonight confirmed his death Wednesday, quoting a family source who said Jackson last week was in a Las Vegas hospital, where family members were gathered to say their goodbyes.

Over the years, Jackson had a rocky relationship with his wife, Katherine, with whom he had 10 children, according to CNN.

Jackson's final years were plagued with ill health - he suffered a series of strokes in 2013 and was hospitalized for another stroke in 2015. His three oldest sons, Jackie, Tito and Jermaine, were the first to perform, going under the name the Jackson Brothers.

A family source tells that Jackson, who had his wife Katherine by his side when he passed away, faded into unconsciousness on Tuesday.

Joe Jackson was a beloved father to quite a big number of children, including music legends Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.

He referenced that toughness recently when he shared some advice for grandson Blanket Jackson in a heartfelt video: "Be like me: Be tough, in a good way, and you'll live a long time".

Joe was the manager of his sons' musical group The Jackson 5, which included Michael Jackson. Soon, he brought Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael together to become the Jackson 5.

"I will always love you!", his pop star daughter La Toya Jackson tweeted on Wednesday. However, during some of his son's most hard times, including his 2004 molestation trial, Joseph was by his side.

However, Paris Jackson later tweeted that her grandfather did not post the tweet, saying, "My grandfather did not tweet this. You gave us strength, you made us one of the most famous families in the world", she wrote on her official Twitter account. RIP JOE JACKSON and thank you for giving us the many gifts of talent from your family, not just to our community on a whole.but to the ENTIRE WORLD!

But while Jackson is credited as the driving force behind the success, he also was reviled for his abrasive manner and revelations by his children that he was a physically and emotionally abusive father. "My father's never touched me aside from that time".

Previous year he said he was "truly sorry" for the way he treated them. In a 2003 interview on the BBC, Jackson said, "I whipped [Michael] with a switch and a belt...[but] I never beat him".
