Amazon Echo Show is on Sale Ahead of Prime Day 2018

Amazon launches Echo Look in U.S., could popularize computer vision via Alexa

Amazon’s new smart speaker is a TV streaming box, and vice versa

It will let users control their live TV experience with voice commands through those boxes. Plus, any visual content you'd normally find on something like an Echo Show will be displayed on your television.

The standard version comes with an IR extender cable, remote and an Ethernet adapter. This is a better deal on the Echo Show than Amazon offered on Prime Day previous year. The Fire TV Cube can use Alexa to answer queries and play some music if you want, but it's a Fire TV device first, and it's connected to your TV to control that equipment and you can even play music that way if you want to listen with better speakers.

The Fire TV Cube is not entirely hands-free yet, however. And, like the Polk Alexa-enabled Command Bar (which is a soundbar that also has a light ring), the buttons on the top also copy those found on an Echo. There are also apps available in the U.S. for ESPN, Fox Now, Showtime, Starz, PlayStation Vue, CBS All Access, and NBC. You can do things like ask for the weather, check your calendar, and get your daily briefing all thanks to the streaming box. To use, send in two photos of different outfits and in about a minute, Style check will return a recommendation based on fit, colour, styling, and current trends, plus an explanation of why one is better. The device uses eight far-field microphones to recognize your voice from across the room and will feed you responses like a normal Echo would.

Jennifer Prenner, Amazon's global director of marketing for the Fire TV brand, says Amazon wanted to ensure Cube can control your cable box. Boom, full integration. It'll work with set-top boxes from Comcast, DISH, et al, too, in case you haven't fully cut the cord. Another plus: since it's created to hook up to a TV, users can easily control and view smart camera feeds.

The research conducted by InfoScout and Alpine.AI showed that while not all Echo owners regularly used the device to make online purchases, of those that did, they spent, on average 29% more than other regular Amazon customers.

Amazon Prime members who pre-order today or tomorrow, June 7 and 8, can pick one up for $89.99.
