Karnataka: Protests hinder screening of Rajinikanth’s film ‘Kaala’

In what could be perceived as a shocking setback to the Rajinikanth legend, his latest release Kaala has opened to an underwhelming response. Tweets also suggest that the film was uploaded at 5.28 am in the morning with many fans asking producers to take strict action against Tamilrockers. "Everybody is waiting for the film to be released", the bench told the petitioner's counsel.

In Bengaluru, single-screen theaters known to release Tamil movies are not screening the movie amidst protests. While in the morning, scores of protesters were detained by the police, around 2 pm the movie was screened in Orion Mall in Rajajinagar. Rajinikanth said that it was not right to oppose the film for his political views on the Cauvery river water dispute. Besides the original Tamil version, the film has been released across the country and beyond with sub-titles in Hindi, Telugu and English.

Meanwhile, theatres in Karnataka are avoiding screening "Kaala", amid protests.

According to reports, round 300 police personnel have been deployed near town hall to avoid untoward incidents. He is a Rajini fan.

Miffed with Rajinikanth's comments over Cauvery water, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on May 29 decided not to allow screening of "Kaala".

Many fans who bought the tickets online for the show on Wednesday were disappointed as they could not watch their favourite superstar's film. "The opening of "Kaala" may be on the lower side-I haven't found the time to check-because his last film with the same director (Pa. Ranjith) had not been appreciated that much". Reports also said that the distributor's office in Karnataka was attacked.
