Tetris Effect definitely seems like a game you're going to have to actually play to fully appreciate, but hey, I'm always willing to give a new take on Tetris a chance.
Tetris Effect is the game in question, and there are three things about it that immediately stick out. Tetris Effect is named after an actual psychological effect seen in Tetris players, and Sony says the game is created to enhance elements of this phenomenon. A new mechanic called Zone is also coming in Tetris Effect, making it possible to stop time to avoid losing a game or clear a higher number of lines at once, though it's unclear how this works. The game will apparently feature over 30 different stages, each with its own music, sound effects, graphical style, and background that evolve as you play through them. Sony is promising there will be other new additions to the game too, but loyal Tetris fans will see fan favorites such as Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra modes returning.
Some of these updates have been mainly aesthetic re-workings, while others have experimented with adding new game modes and ways of playing. What do you think about Tetris Effect? . More details about the game (as well as its release date) will be revealed at E3 Thursday, so time will tell.
