And during the Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Cavs and Celtics on Sunday, Smart performed this egregious flop.
Danny Ainge tore apart the team that made the Eastern Conference finals past year, and then put together a new roster that came one victory from playing for an National Basketball Association title.
"Gordon is progressing well", Ainge said.
Following the Celtics' loss to the Cavaliers, Smart told ESPN's Jackie McMullan that he felt the "heart" he puts on display is hard to to "price gouge", if he were to get the raise he's been clamoring for.
"The farther you go in the playoffs, the more hard it is to lose", Ainge said.
"To be honest, I'm worth more than $12-14 million", Smart said to ESPN. From Jayson Tatum, who looked every bit the part as he went to war against arguably the best player of all-time, to the likes of Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart. I am originally from Mansfield Connecticut right next to Uconn and the basketball capitol of the world, I am an avid basketball fan, I still play the game, I officiate high school basketball and still watch basketball nearly everyday. "And I think that we've been managing the payroll pretty well up to this point, and we know that there's some really big, tough decisions going forward". "That's going to eat at all of us for a while".
"I want him here all the time", Jackson said about Irving. That never really happened to me as a player so I'm not sure I understand, but you could see it in their eyes all year when Gordon was out.
The 24-year-old averaged 10.4 points and 29.9 minutes per game this season. But that being said, I want to be in Boston.
Monroe, Aron Baynes and Larkin will be unrestricted free agents this summer and Marcus Smart will be a restricted free agent.
And with Ainge calling the shots, it's nearly impossible to predict the future.
With July 1 looming, we'll soon find out what the future holds for Smart and the C's. "And there's no guarantee that those deals are there", Ainge said. "I had a lot of fun leading these guys this year when I had to step up, next year it will play itself out the right way".
