Assad previously visited Russian Federation and met with Putin in November 2017 and October 2015.
Russian Federation has been a crucial ally of the Syrian regime throughout the Middle Eastern country's seven-year civil.
Putin congratulated Assad on what he said were considerable achievements by the Syrian armed forces against terrorist units.
India is not going to allow in any manner its defence programe to be dictated by any other country, the government said here on Thursday when all eyes are on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first "informal" Summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 21. Its military support not only ensured the survival of Assad's regime but also changed the course of the war.
"The next task, of course, the economic recovery and humanitarian aid for those people in a hard situation", Mr Putin added.
The latest round of Syria peace talks in the Kazakh capital Astana wrapped up on Tuesday, but did not however make any concrete progress towards ending the seven-year conflict that has cost 350,000 lives.
"Russia, with proven technological prowess across sectors, is ideally placed to partner with India for realizing the hitherto unexplored business and investment opportunities", Rashesh Shah, President, FICCI said on Thursday. Indo-Russia cooperation in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) issues are likely to be discussed.
According to the Kremlin statement, Assad said "stability is improving" in Syria, "opening the door to the political process we started some time ago".
He thanked the Russian military for playing an important role in the fight.
But rebel factions still control large parts of northwestern and southwestern Syria, while a Kurdish-led alliance backed by the United States holds most of the northeast.
The Russian President is also meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron in the next few weeks.
