Teams hope to find luck in NBA draft lottery

The Suns will have a top-three selection in the draft for just the third time in franchise history, selecting No. 2 in 1969 and 1987.

During halftime in Tuesday night's National Basketball Association conference championship series between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the draft order of the 14 teams that did not make this year's National Basketball Association playoffs was determined, with each of the 14 teams hoping for one of the first three picks in this year's draft on June 21.

After finishing the 2017-18 season with the NBA's worst record, the Suns had the best odds of securing the No. 1 pick, but only with a 25 percent chance of doing so. Here's a look at their top five options for the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Suns checked off that box Tuesday with the No. 1 overall pick.

Now the discussion turns to who the Suns will take with that first pick in the draft, Luka Doncic or DeAndre Ayton. The Memphis Grizzlies will pick fourth and the Dallas Mavericks will pick fifth. Thanks to Lady Luck finally responding to one of the Suns' desperate "U up?" texts in the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery, they'll get to check off the former box in the hopes of eventually checking off the latter. Griffin was the top pick of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft.

NBA Draft 2017 held in Barclays Center in Brooklyn borough of New York, United States on June 22, 2017.
