As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced several squads for India's upcoming tours, social media was full of reactions from fans who expressed their thoughts over several inclusions and exclusions. The members are as follows: Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (Vice Captain), KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Siddharth Kaul, Umesh Yadav. We don't want to be one-dimensional.
India play England in a three-match T20I series from July 3 to 8. Calling the Rajasthan Royals captain's rejection "harsh", Dada said, "Ajinkya Rahane is a far superior player in England where the ball is going to move". They tried several options including Yuvraj Singh, Manish Pandey and others without great result. During that series, Virat Kohli was in fine form as he scored 558 runs in the six matches.
From India's previous T20I squad, which contested and won the Nidahas tri-series Trophy in Sri Lanka, Deepak Hooda, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Vijay Shankar and Jaydev Unadkat have been replaced with Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Siddarth Kaul and Umesh Yadav. Another name missing from the Kohli's list of who could do the job is Manish Pandey. Rayudu has no proven record in English conditions and didn't even have an exceptional record in the domestic one-day tournaments in the last two years.
Rayudu, who last played for India in an ODI against Zimbabwe back in 2016, has already aggregated 423 runs from 10 matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). "The selectors" supposed contention that Agarwal will have to be consistent in his performance for at least two seasons can be debated upon.
Rahane has also been in and out of the Indian team which actually has taken a big hit to his confidence. He is now the captain of the team for the lone Test against Afghanistan in mid- June in Bangalore.
In fact, in South Africa, India had created history by winning their first ever bilateral series.
While selecting the ODI team for the England series, the selectors it seems have chose to reward a few young faces for their good performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Karun Nair was picked in the team as a replacement for Virat Kohli, who will be busy playing county cricket for Surrey in the month of June.
