Canelo Alvarez faces a six-month senspension for failing drug tests.

Golovkin never stopped training and clearly has no interest in cutting Alvarez any slack, nor does he give much credence to Alvarez's stated explanation for two positive drug tests.

Canelo Alvarez will be suspended for six months after reaching an agreement with the Nevada State Athletic Commission over two failed drug tests from February.

The ruling means Alvarez, who did not attend the hearing, will be free to fight again in August - raising the possibility of a rescheduled Golovkin fight in September. With AP Photos.Gennady Golovkin finally has an opponent for his May 5 fight.

After pulling out of the fight against unified world champion Golovkin, Alvarez insisted he was not guilty of any wrongdoing.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn said yesterday that he wants to stage the fight on September 15 at Wembley. Golovkin has proved himself to be a sterling gate attraction in his previous three fights in the Southland, selling out The Fabulous Forum twice, in 2016 and 2015, and setting the all time attendance record for boxing at StubHub Center in 2014. Loeffler acknowledged the letter from the IBF and told ESPN that Golovkin plans to fight May 5 and said their side will seek an exception, adding that he hopes the IBF will grant one.

"Martirosyan is an experienced fighter who has faced and defeated important fighters".

"Canelo looks forward to returning to the ring in September for Mexican Independence Day weekend to represent Mexico and boxing in what will be the sport's biggest event of the year", the statement said.

"I am truly shocked about what has happened, and for those who have doubts and suspicions about my integrity I have always been and always will be a clean fighter", Alvarez said. It's a good show for L.A. Cinco De Mayo.

But with Alvarez suspended there was too little time between the hearing and the fight do promoters made a decision to cancel the bout.

Armenian-American Martirosyan usually fights at light middleweight and has lost both of his title bouts at that level - to Demetrius Andrade in 2013 and Erislandy Lara in 2016.
