Cleveland hosts Rock Hall Induction Ceremony

This year was a little different, though, as the Hall also officially recognized singles for the first time, creating a new (and seemingly limitless) category for songs that shaped the course of rock music, from a couple of the earliest to some psych-rock staples of the "60s". A flawless Brittany Howard, of the critically acclaimed rock act Alabama Shakes, gave an extraordinary Tharpe impression onstage, winning over the audience with her rousing live performance in honor of the godmother of rock "n" roll. "Performing for the first time in years with original guitarist Richie Sambora, the band played hits such as "Livin" on a Prayer", "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "It's My Life".

Presenting blues, jazz, R&B, pop and folk artist Nina Simone was Mary J. Blige.

Bon Jovi had the most incredible reunion at their induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at the weekend.

The frontman said though he and the other current members haven't spoken to Sambora since he left the group, he invites the performer, along with Such, to be part of the Rock Hall festivities. The band then transitioned into a segment of "Free Fallin' as lead singer Brandon Flowers urged the crowd of 10,000 to "get on your feet for the eternal Tom Petty".

Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Nina Simone were inducted posthumously.

He said he had been writing the speech for years.

In its citation, the Hall of Fame credited the London band with its revival of Americana, saying, "Dire Straits dragged rock kicking and screaming back to its gritty, country roots using beefy guitar licks and bluesy vocals".

The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on HBO May 5 at 8 p.m. Band members thanked fans as they accepted their award after a speech from Ann Wilson, who praised their "natural intelligence".
