Late in the night, exchange of fire stopped but the security forces illuminated the area to prevent the holed up terrorists' bid to escape.

The two militants killed in an overnight gunfight with the government forces in Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar have been identified as Owais Ahmad of Tral and Shabir Ahmad of Aghanzipora.

Security personnel immediately surrounded the village and a gunfight started there.

Security forces on Friday recovered the bodies of two terrorists who were killed in an encounter in Srinagar's Khonmoh area while apprehended two terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession. "While the search operation was underway, contact was established with the holed up militants". No one was injured since the vehicle was bulletproof, said sources. "The encounter is going on", said a police spokesperson here.

"Angry youth in groups are hurling rocks at the security forces apparently to disrupt the operation", said a local resident over the phone. A vehicle in the use of the accused identified as Faizan ul Zaman Bhat, Sajad Ahmed Dar and Miaser Ahmed has also been seized, another police statement said. "It took time to sanitise the encounter site due to the possibility of the presence of explosives amid the ongoing protests by terrorist sympathisers in the region", Parray added.
