Vandalising statues started on Monday when the statue of Lenin was bulldozed in Tripura after the BJP swept the assembly elections.
Police officials also added that an investigation has been launched in this regard and the miscreant will soon be caught. The police have arrested one man in connection with the incident. Another disturbing instance of vandals overstepping their bounds was when some of them smeared red pain on the statue of BR Ambedkar, Wednesday night.
This came a day after PM Modi strongly condemned such incidents and spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the issue. "We will nab the culprits once their identity is established", said a police officer.
The suspect pulled down the spectacles off the statue and fled the spot when people caught him in the act, said News18.
There have been multiple incidents of statues being vandalised in various parts of the country. Other statues that have been vandalized since Monday have been, Periyar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal respectively.
The police confirmed that there was no political motive behind the incident in Taliparamba. Another statue of Lenin was vandalised in the state as well.
The CPM (M) has called it "communist phobia", while the BJP has said that the statue was bulldozed by the people "oppressed" by the Left.
