- A auto struck a group of pedestrians in Brooklyn Monday afternoon, killing two children and injuring at least two other people, the mayor said.

Three people, including two children, were hit by a vehicle, police said.

The incident happened at 9th Street and Fifth Avenue around 12:30 p.m, reported ABC 7.

The vehicle, driven by 44-year-old mom Dorothy Bruns, then slowly inches into the crosswalk just before Fifth Avenue.

Officials say another 34-year-old woman was also struck and is said to be stable.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is now stable and expected to survive. His office says an investigation into both the crash and how to improve safety at the intersection is underway.

"This loss of life is tragic and painful for all of us, particularly those of us who are parents", he said.

"She had no emotion, no emotion at all", said bystander Jennifer Muniz, as she waited to speak with investigators following the horrific crash.

A PIX11 reporter on scene witnessed a pregnant woman and two children in a stroller get off a bus when they were struck by a driver who appeared to be speeding up to make it through a light.

Driver is in custody. "People trying to cover the baby to stop her from bleeding". "I don't even want to think about this".

The Post previously reported that Bruns told police she is on medication for a host of issues including multiple sclerosis and heart problems.

"The pregnant woman was just lying on the street".
