CPM will bounce back from temporary setback: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The 25-year-old CPM government's loss to BJP in the election was quite unexpected.

A delegation of three Congress leaders - Kamal Nath, Ahmed Patel and C P Joshi - had yesterday staked a claim to form the government in the state at a meeting with the governor.

He said that the NPP should take lead to form a non-Congress government and added that the BJP is trying to forge an alliance with the NPP and the United Democratioc Party (UDP), both allies to the BJP in the North East Democratic Alliance ( NEDA).

A senior party member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the result of the Tripura Assembly election was likely to change equations within the party.

After 2008, the north eastern state will see for the first time a multi-party coalition government.

We are requesting the prime minister to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

Pulling off a historic victory, the BJP and its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal-dominated party, together won 43 out of 59 Tripura constituencies.

The state unit also honoured party workers who campaigned for the party in the three states.

The Left leader won the Dhanpur seat by a margin of 5,441 votes defeating BJP general secretary and woman leader Pratima Bhowmik in a multi-cornered contest.

Deb, a gym instructor-turned-politician, thanked the people of Tripura for their overwhelming support and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah with the party's showing.

N.R. Zeliang, who polled 6,850 votes was wrongly declared as the victor in place of Nchang who had polled 7,018 votes, the order said, citing Article 324 of the Constitution to cancel the declaration of the result in favour of Mr. Zeliang. "If BJP's alliance with NPF in Nagaland doesn't remain intact, NDA will lose one MP seat each in Nagaland and Manipur", said Hau. "Once things are clear, we will have to take a decision", the Governor said. Hence, a victory here gives the BJP the talking point of it now being acceptable outside "mainland" (read: Hindu-dominated) India. This journey from "Shunya" (zero) to "Shikhar" (top) has been made possible due to a solid development agenda and the strength of our organisation. Today peace and non-violence has prevailed over fear. "What my sisters and brothers of Tripura have done is extraordinary. We will leave no stone unturned in transforming Tripura", Modi said. The elections in Tripura were held on February 18. On results day, March 3, Mr Zeliang said although the BJP has a formal alliance with the NDPP, the doors of the NPF were open for the BJP to come and join.
