Lake Nona High School assistant principal Adele Salazar said in a message to the campus community that another student saw the boy on the bus with what appeared to be a gun and alerted staff.
"Because of yesterday's school tragedy in Florida, we understand there is a heightened sense of concern surrounding this type of situation", Principal Gary Shafferman said in a statement. Montgomery County police is questioning the student.
The student faces felony charges for possessing a firearm in a prohibited space, according to Flower Mound police. In addition to contacting the Police Department, the student is going through our school disciplinary processes. Any student caught with a weapon will be referred to law enforcement and punished accordingly. After one of our South Garland High School students reported to campus administration that another student was involved in theft, a search was conducted.
In this case, Police recovered the pellet gun on the school's campus.
According to a note sent to parents by Marcus principal Gary Shafferman, police "do not believe the student meant to harm anyone on campus".
A school resource officer received a tip Thursday morning that a student was concealing a gun in a backpack, according to a tweet from Baltimore County's Public Safety.
