"The freezing rain will change to rain tonight as temperatures rise above the freezing mark".
The warning, issued at 4 p.m. from Pearson Airport, says periods of freezing rain will continue this afternoon and may persist into early this evening. "A brief period of snow may precede the freezing rain but any snowfall accumulations are expected to be minimal".
The warning comes with the usual caution of slippery roads, sidewalks and parking lots and transportation delays.
The freezing rain will also hit the Montérégie region by midday Sunday before making its way to the Outaouais and Mauricie regions by the evening.
Snow is expected stop overnight, followed by more snow possible on Sunday.
All signs point to a return of winter, and some slippery conditions for the weekend, on the heels of a series of special weather statements issued for Southern Ontario from Environment Canada today.
The sun will be back by Monday in Montreal, with a high of -5 C, as well as Tuesday with -7 C.
