One police officer is dead and two others injured after a shooting in Colorado Springs, Colo., officials said Monday.
Three officers, two El Paso County Sheriff's deputies and a Colorado Springs Police officer, have been shot in Colorado Springs.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of 34-year-old Micah Flick, killed in the line of duty on Monday during an auto theft investigation in Colorado Springs.
"Deputy Flick was an outstanding member of my agency and he will be missed", Sheriff Bill Elder said.
A deputy was killed and three other law enforcement officers were wounded while investigating a auto theft in Colorado Monday. As a result, a civilian was injured by gunfire and transported to Memorial Hospital. The lone suspect was killed, authorities said.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said that Monday was his 11-year anniversary with the EPSO.
Police tweeted that all suspects involved in the shooting are accounted for.
Flick was shot after the suspect led him and other officers on a pursuit. "State Patrol, sheriff's office and the Colorado Springs Police Department, our hearts are all broken", he said.
The slain deputy was investigating a vehicle theft.
CBS affiliate KKTV posted images that showed police cruisers and ambulances at the crime scene.
Condolences poured in on Twitter from political leaders and other law enforcement agencies, which offered their sympathy, help and anguish.
Colorado Springs Police Chief Pete Carey told the Denver News the police officer was wounded in a struggle with the suspect.
Online fundraisers for Flick's family are likely to be set up within the coming days and we will keep you updated as to how you can directly contribute in support of Flick's wife and 7-year-old twins.
"This is indeed a hard day for our agencies", Carey said.
This is a developing story and CPR will provide more information as it becomes available.
"We want each officer, every deputy, to know we are grateful for their service", the governor said.
