"Play it straight" is how President Lou Anna Simon says she advised her Michigan State University staff to handle allegations of sexual misconduct against a MSU physician.

Many of Nassar's victims were among those calling on Simon to quit.

In the brisk campus air or in the Student Union between classes, many students say they think MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon's resignation this week is deserved.

There has been no evidence that Simon or Hollis knew Nassar was sexually abusing young girls and women, including some athletes who competed for the Spartans. Trustee Dianne Byrum released a statement Wednesday evening saying she supported Simon's immediate resignation.

One of Nassar's victims, Kyle Stephens, said Michigan State needs to be "accountable for everything that they've done". "That's all changed. I can't get over the monsters who turned a blind eye to the monster that is Larry Nassar".

Wednesday afternoon, Simon attends the Nassar hearing with MSU Trustee Melanie Foster.

With the cameras rolling, they also repeatedly expressed their rage towards MSU, where Nassar worked for 20 years as a sports-medicine doctor.

Ferguson says there are "so many more things going on" at Michigan State "than just this Nassar thing".

Shortly after the grand jury presentation laid out the facts of Jerry Sandusky's indictment in November 2011, with 52 charges of child molestation, Penn State placed one official involved on administrative leave, forced another into retirement, fired football coach Joe Paterno, then demanded the resignation of the president.

"Especially once there was a conviction, we are very sorry for what happened, we are exploring it, and we don't ever want this to happen again", said Carter. "But I think in this case, her actions did not meet the leadership that we need at Michigan State".

As Nassar's sentencing hearing carried on over the past few weeks, Simon has faced mounting pressure to step down thanks to gut-wrenching testimonies from those who were victimized by Nassar - including current and former Michigan State student athletes. The university's probe cleared Nassar in 2014, reported Time. But some victims said they complained to various staff as far back as the late 1990s. What it lacked in personal accountability, it accomplished in beginning to take responsibility as an institution and is the next step in the path forward for MSU - for our students, our faculty and our alumni.

"We will be working through the details of transition with President Simon through the rest of the week and will announce them as soon as we can".

Many names have been floated around, majority local or state elected officials with a connection to Michigan State University.

Throughout Nassar's seven-day sentencing, Simon and the board of trustees seemed to make misstep after misstep.

Some are likening Michigan State to Penn State University, where three senior officials, including the school's president, were sentenced to jail previous year for failing to tell authorities about a sexual abuse allegation involving coach Jerry Sandusky.

"As you looked around at the qualities all of us wanted, she measured up perfectly", he said at the time of Simon's hiring.
