The company was awarded the money following a legal dispute with Grenade Beverage, who was licensed to create branded iced coffee but reportedly breached the contract to create branded coffee grounds and t-shirts.

Grumpy Cat, based in the USA, is a celebrity feline who first gained attention in 2012 due to her unique grouchy expression.

Grumpy Cat Limited struck a deal with U.S. coffee company Grenade, allowing it to sell its "Grumppuccino" iced coffee drink featuring a photograph of the cat.

Grenade Beverage paid to use her images on iced coffee products, but went further and launched a roasted coffee product without permission.

To most Internet users, Grumpy Cat - the feline with a furry frown - is a minor celebrity that capitalized on the popularity of memes in 2012 as a perpetual sourpuss.

The cat's perpetually sad and unique expression is said to be caused by feline dwarfism and an underbite - when the lower jaw extends forward. The cat's unexpected fame allowed Bundesen to quit her job waitressing at Red Lobster, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The coffee company countersued, saying that the cat's company had not done all that had been agreed to.

Two years after the deal was reached, Grumpy Cat Limited sued the coffee company over the other products.

An attorney for the beverage company also said that Grumpy Cat's team had claimed the cat would be staring in a movie with Jack Black and Will Ferrell but never did.

She also has 1.42 million followers on Twitter, 2.4 million on Instagram and nearly nine million likes on Facebook.

But in 2015 Grumpy Cat Limited sued them for breaching that contract.

There has been no reaction on the court victory from Grumpy Cat herself, except for a photo posted on social media. "We asked the jury what they thought was right and they came to the right conclusion", Grumpy Cat's lawyer David Jonelis, told AFP.
