Matt Patricia Reportedly The Favorite To Land Giants Head Coaching Job

Late last week, reports surfaced that suggested New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia taking over as head coach of the Detroit Lions was basically a formality.

According to Peter King, Patricia actually favors the head coaching vacancy for the New York Giants over the Lions.

Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia will likely be an National Football League head coach next season, but it remains to be seen exactly where.

The Patriots defense has ranked among the NFL's top 10 in points allowed in all six of Patricia's seasons despite constant question marks surrounding their secondary. But background work has and can be done to hire head coaches, with an official announcement to come quickly once a candidate is done in a previous job.

Patricia, 43, interviewed with the Giants on Friday after team representatives traveled to Foxborough to interview he and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

He arrived as an offensive assistant and his since helped on the offensive line, coached linebackers, safeties and overseen a unit as defensive coordinator. Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, Green Bay Packers associate head coach Winston Moss and current offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter have interviewed for the job. In fact, he is often called a 'defensive genius.'Hold on, Pats Fans....it's not who you think. However, his departure would be a major loss for the Patriots. "I was not reporting then, and am not reporting now, that the Lions will hire or are likely to hire Patricia". Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks could enter the mix as well, as he hits the interview circuit this week.
