HP announces new Chromebooks designed for education

The disadvantage of Acer Chromebook 11 is the low resolution of 1366×768 for the 11.6-inch display. Not too thin, and not too thick, at under 19 mm, the HP Chromebook 11 G6 and Chromebook 14 G5 start at 2.27 and 3.39 pounds respectively, which are fairly decent numbers for (semi) rugged machines created to survive kids as young as six.

Acer has launched a new version of its new Chromebook 11. It will be powered by Intel's Celeron processor. The highlight of the Acer Chromebook 11 CB311 is the addition of a fanless design, which helps the device to work silently in any environment. But USB-C has remained rare in entry-level machines like the Chromebook 11. The Chromebook 11 G6 and 14 G5 are said to be an upgrade to the company's last-generation Chromebook. It even uses USB Type-C for charging, so you can use the same cable as the rest of the laptops in the class. Other connectivity options include 2 USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.2, and 2x2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity.

Above the display there's a high-dynamic range (HDR) camera, while the Chromebook 11 also has dual stereo speakers and a microphone.

Chromebooks have seemingly hit their stride this past year thanks to new hardware and the arrival of Android apps, but other Chrome OS form factors have seemingly gone silent.

"The new Acer Chromebook 11 continues Acer's tradition of delivering strong performance with all the benefits of Chrome OS at an excellent value". It also comes with up to 8GB RAM and 64GB storage, and can withstand MIL-STD 810G testing.

The Acer Chromebook 11 CB311 will be available in North America in April with prices starting at US$249, and in EMEA in March with prices starting at €249.
