More than 100 Kmart and Sears stores will close this spring, including five low-performing stores in North Carolina.
Closeout sales will begin next week with all locations shuttered by May. All 103 local Sears and Kmarts, including the Ocala and Bellview locations, will shutter by May.
The company says employees at 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores were notified Thursday that it was closing the stores between early March and early April.
Liquidation sales at closing Macy's stores will begin as soon as January 8, while Sears will start liquidating stores as soon as January 12.
In November, Sears announced that the city's other Kmart, on Henderson Drive, would be closing this month.
"Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size". That store remains open as it continues to liquidate stock.
In addition to the Kmart in Cumru Township, the company once operated stores in Exeter and Muhlenberg townships, with the Muhlenberg Kmart being among dozens that closed in 2016.
