In its press release on Tuesday, Amazon announced it sold "tens of millions" of Echo devices worldwide, with Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote being the most popular products in Amazon across all categories. Both placed Amazon Alexa - the voice-based assistant software behind Amazon Echo - as the most downloaded app on Christmas Day.

More than 1 billion items were ordered from small businesses and entrepreneurs worldwide this season, with more than 140 million of those over the five-day period from Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) through Cyber Monday (Nov. 27). Amazon's Alexa app also topped the charts for Apple and Google Play on Christmas day, suggesting an influx of new customers setting up their devices.

Over the course of one week, more than 4 million people became Prime members or started a free trail, sending the e-commerce giant's membership count to new highs, it said.

The most-watched Amazon Channel subscriptions over the 2017 holiday season were HBO, Showtime and Starz, and the current seasons of "Game of Thrones", "Shameless" and "Power" were the top watched shows on each channel, respectively. In the USA, the company used more than 6,000 trailers and 32 Amazon Air planes to deliver orders.

In Europe, 10 fulfillment centers were able to complete more than 1 million packages in one day.

Amazon's Echo Dot speaker may be the first hit product that literally sells itself.

Amazon App shopping rose 70% in this holiday season.
