Pit bull attack leaves Kentucky woman dead, husband injured

Update: names released in deadly dog attack

Woman Killed, Husband Injured In 'Savage' Attack By 2 Dogs In Bell Co.

Two pit bulls, one brown and one white, attacked Lorraine Brock Saylor, 66, and her husband, Johnny Saylor, on Sunday morning.

Johnny Saylor, Lorraine's husband came running out after hearing a commotion outside and that is when one of the dogs started attacking him.

A Kentucky woman is dead and her husband is severely injured after they suffered a Christmas Eve pit bull attack. Her husband was also hurt by the dogs.

Johnny was able to get away and grab his gun and shot at the dogs, killing one.

Authorities are asking the community to keep an eye for the missing dog but urged them not to engage with the animal should they come across it.

Around 10.20am, brother-in-law James Saylor called police to tell them that the two dogs had "savagely" attacked the couple.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released. As for the dogs, he said he had seen them before.

The couple did not own the pit bulls, officials said. "She anxious more about neighbors and friends than she did herself, as Johnny's the same way, they're just a very giving couple".

"She was out taking care of animals, and a very unfortunate set of circumstances happened and she lost her life", Bell County Coroner Jay Steele said. They are asking everyone in the Arjay area to stay away from the dog if sighted and call them immediately at 606-337-6174.

It comes about a week after a 22-year-old Virginia woman was mauled by two of her pet pit bulls while she was going for a walk. The other dog has not been found yet.

"They were just a super nice couple, and I can't even begin to put myself in his shoes".

James Saylor said he is still just trying to understand the attack.
