Mumbai: The much-awaited trailer of Akshay Kumar-starrer "Padman" is finally unveiled and looks like the star will continue his winning streak at the box office with yet another socially relevant film.
Not afraid of experimenting on screen, Akshay Kumar is now the new superhero of Bollywood.
"America ke paas Superman hai, Batman hai, SpiderMan hai". It is billed as the most progressive family entertainer yet, starring global megastar Akshay Kumar who assumes the titular role of Arunachalam Muruganantham to once again showcase his commitment to social entertainers. We soon meet Akshay Kumar's character Lakshmikanth, whose initiative to manufacture cost-effective sanitary napkins results in him delivering a speech on menstrual hygiene at the UN Headquarters.
PadMan releases in cinemas worldwide on the 26th January to inspire us all through Sony Pictures Entertainment, India. The film is based on Twinkle Khanna's book, The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad, which in turn is inspired from the life story of Tamil Nadu-based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham who pioneers the cause of low-priced sanitary napkins in India.
In the film, Akshay plays the role of a simple villager who is on a mission to create a cheap and sustainable sanitary option that his wife and other women can use during their period. Meanwhile, Akshay has also wrapped his other film Gold just the past weekend. "Thank you to everyone who has got us this far, I hope you enjoy the trailer!"
