Following the deluge of accusations outing several prominent entertainers and media figures as sexual predators, hip-hop honcho and record executive Russell Simmons has been among those accused of habitual sexual misconduct. Four women accused the music mogul of rape.
In a statement to People Magazine, Simmons denies all accusations, saying all acts of sexual conduct were consensual, stating the "horrific accusations have shocked me to my core".
Simmons founded Def Jam Recordings with mega-producer Rick Rubin in 1984.
But in the New York Times, four women have accused Simmons of abusing his power over them, with three of the women alleging Simmons of rape. But he "emphatically states that he did not have sex with her", his lawyer said. "While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely and humbly apologize".
A day after those allegations came out, Simmons responded by posting an image of the hashtag #NotMe to his Instagram account. My intention is not to diminish the #MeToomovement in anyway, but instead hold my accusers accountable.
"He pushed me into his apartment and then he threw me down on the floor and literally tried to ... take my clothes off of me", Cutrone told us, "And I started kicking him really, really hard, screaming, telling him to get the f-- off of me. And that I would have him killed if he ever f-king laid a hand on me".
Comedian Amanda Seales told the paper he had made inappropriate comments about sex, while Karen Russell, a former manager at his yoga company Tantris, spoke about allegations of harassment.
The three women have stepped forward, accusing Simmons, 60, of a "pattern of violent sexual behavior", including rape, between the late 1980s and 2014, according to the New York Times. The Times had previously reported allegations against Simmons by model Keri Claussen Khalighi and screenwriter Jenny Lumet.
A year later, Sallie ran into Simmons one night at a hotel in South Florida, where she says he became aggressive after she refused to accompany him to the beach.
"The NYPD has received information regarding allegations involving Russell Simmons in the NYC area and our detectives are in the process of reviewing that information", NYPD Assistant Commissioner J. Peter Donald said in a statement to CBS2.
