After a hallmark Kettle Campaign past year, $30,000+ was raised, Kristensen says funds were used during the Christmas season and stretched into 2017 to help feed the less fortunate from the Rossland Avenue pantry.
"The funds from the Red Kettle are used to buy the groceries for the hampers and so on". Money collected during the Red Kettle Campaign helps fund meals for those in need and Christmas gifts for children who might not otherwise have anything to open on Christmas morning.
We're not sure why the level of volunteers and donations have waned this season.
"It makes me feel good, and it makes me feel happy", she said.
That means Friday and Saturday traffic and donations are crucial to the Salvation Army pulling in the remaining half of its goal in the next week.
Community Garden: The Community Garden is located behind the Corps building and operates throughout the summer to provide fresh vegetables to the feeding program and to food distribution.
