Three passengers, among them a six-year-old boy, were killed and nine suffered injuries when 14 coaches of the Patna-bound Vasco Da Gama-Patna Express derailed at Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, after 4 am on Friday.

The commissioner of railway safety (North-East circle) SK Pandey will conduct a probe into the derailment of Vasco Da Gama-Patna Express at Manikpur and Allahabad on November 28 and 29 respectively.

After the incident took place, the train movements were disrupted on the Patna Allahabad route.

Rail Minister Piyush Goyal announces a compensation of five lakhs for the deceased and one lakh for the injured.

The nation today woke up to the news of yet another train accident in Uttar Pradesh which has now become a frequent affair.

According to initial reports, prima facie it appears that the accident occurred because of the fractured railway track. Ashwani Lohani, railway board chairman, has been asked to rush to the spot,"said Anil Saxena, Railway spokesman while interacting with the NDTV". The injured people are undergoing treatment in the hospital out which two people are serious.

May 4, 2014: At least 20 people were killed and about 100 injured when the Diva Junction-Sawantwadi passenger train derailed between Nagothane and Roha stations in Maharashtra's Raigad district.

The recent incidents of train derailments have caused great concern in the country.

Senior railway ministry officials along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a medical train carried out rescue operations and provided support to victims.

An Inquiry Committee has been set up by East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Umesh Singh to find the reason for the derailment.
